Banned Books WeekThe library opinion on book banning is different than both sides of the challenged books section. The ALA believes that while parents should and have a say in what their children read, it is not the librarian's job to monitor and restrict access to books to do the job for them. It is the librarian's job to encourage them to read, and help them find and research information within the library.
Banned Book Week is an annual event where we celebrates the freedom to read. It usually the last week of September and highlights the value of open access to information . The featured books in Banned Book Week are all books that have been challenged in the libraries and schools, and part of the celebration is that in most cases, the books can remain available thank to efforts of the community members.
